Swiss Institute for Cultural Memory (ISMC)

Headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland

The Swiss Institute for Cultural Memory (ISMC) is an independent Geneva-based institution established in Switzerland for the formal inscription, institutional recognition, and long-term transmission of cultural heritage and expression at the international level.

Anchored in the principles of Swiss neutrality, precision, and intergenerational continuity, the ISMC provides a sovereign and limited-format system through which cultural declarations of national, dynastic, and civilisational significance may be formally registered and preserved.

As part of its operational structure, the Institute administers the Swiss Archives of Cultural Memory (ASMC), a protected archival and legal framework dedicated to the reception, conservation, and transmission of formally inscribed cultural compositions, declarations, and acts of heritage.

The ISMC cooperates with states, ministries of culture, diplomatic missions, and internationally recognised cultural authorities to provide a recognised institutional framework for the safeguarding and long-term transmission of formally declared cultural memory.

Recognition within the ISMC framework confers formal entry into the system of civilisational memory under Swiss institutional protection. The activation of Cultural Cabinets proceeds under reserved and non-public procedures.
